Gift Set -- Tutorial

Well I have been working away on this Gift Set for Christmas and I was not going to post it here until fall but I have had a few (ok more than a few) people ask for the dimensions and instructions on this one, so I made up a quick tutorial using some Summer Smooches Cards and colours!  Below is my original Christmas set and I will post more on this later.

You will need to start with 2 12x12 pieces of Card Stock, 2  8.5x11 pieces of CS and one 7.5x7.5 square Window Sheet.
For the bottom of the box you will score a full sheet of 12x12 at 1" and 2" on all sides of the paper.

For the Lid you will want to cut the paper to 101/8"x101/8" and score at 1' on all sides.

TIP: If you want to stamp your boxes to decorate them now would be the time.

To create the hole in the lid I found it simple to just cut out a 6x6 piece of copy paper and glue it lightly down to the center of the lid.  Then using my cutting tool I cut out the center using the copy paper as a guide.

I cut all the tabs on the four corners and added a window sheet using tape runner.
Then fold the scored edges and glue the tabs in place.  Set your lid aside and start on your base.

Since you have already scored your 12x12 base you now need to cut out the four corners and snip out some tabs.  As I have shown on this white sheet the shaded areas are cut out and the green lines (I hope you can see them) are where you cut the tabs.

Once your tabs are ready you can fold in all of the score lines as shown.

I added adhesive to each of the four sides just under the first score mark.  The tabs will tuck into each of the folds next to them but I added adhesive is just to give it stability.

Now that you have your lid and base created you can move on to the inserts that will divide your cards and tags up.  Using your 2 pieces of 8.5x11 cut out one each of the following:
 6 x 7 7/8
7 5/8 x 3 1/4
11 x 2
9 5/8 x 5 7/8
Score the 6 x 7 7/8  piece on the short side at
2,  2 7/8, and 3
3/4
fold and insert as shown
Score the 9 5/8 x 5 7/8  piece on the long side at
3 1/4,  4 1/8,  and 5
fold and insert as shown

Score the 7 5/8 x 3 1/4 piece on the long side at
                        2 5/8,  3 1/2 and 4 3/8
fold and insert as shown

Score the 11 x 2 piece on the long side at
2 1/4, 3 1/8, 4, 7, 7 7/8 and 8 3/4.
Fold and insert as shown.  You may want to glue all the pieces down but I found they could be tucked under the folded edge of the base and they stayed in place.   I did glue the folds together so they were good and firm.
When you are all done the inserts you should have a space for full size cards with envelopes, 3x3 cards with envelopes, 3 spaces for tags and an extra space I used for twine and a pen.  You could easily put in more tags if you wish.

There is lots of potential to decorate the box, lid and all the fun pieces that go inside.  I did add ribbon to the Christmas box I made at the top of this post.  I will have more details on that closer to the holidays.  For now I used some Summer Smooches to make a fun birthday kit.

I got the idea for this from a kit Jill Hillard did a while back. I created the dimensions for mine from scratch but after I did all that I saw Jill did provide some dimensions (that would have made my life easier LOL).  Check out her blog at  Jill's Card Creations she has the most amazing ideas!

I hope you like the gift set and I hope the dimensions help.

Triple Time Stamping

Are you in need of a super quick card for any occasion?  Well Dawn Olchefske a really wonderful Stampin' Up Demo,  has a great video tutorial that shows you how to make a super simple card using a technique she calls; Triple Time Stamping.

Her card is simple and beautiful.  Her blog is full of great video tutorials and if you ever wonder where I get inspiration from her site is one of many (see list to the right).   Below is my take on this card.

I used some colours I would not normally put together;  Very Vanilla, Regal Rose, Pink Pirouette and Night of Navy.  I also used a stamp set I have had for a year and never used!!  "It's Raining Flowers" was a stamp set I got at convention last year and I have never found a use for it!  Well this card was perfect for it and I was so happy I finally got it off the shelf.  Hope you like the video from Dawn and the card it inspired.  Have a great weekend everyone.

Sneak Peek Part 5 -- Believe

Ok so I took a few days off and good thing I did.  The weather was beautiful on the weekend and we got out and enjoyed it!  Now the weather is back to wind and rain so I have been inside crafting!!! It is honestly the only upside to terrible weather.  This will be my last Sneak Peek before the wonderful new Christmas Mini comes out August 1!  Just 8 days from today.  It seems I have a head start on my Christmas crafting though because I cannot seem to stop.   Ok so on with the show...

This card is a simple and elegant go to card with lots of impact. I love a good snowflake stamp set and Snowflake Soirée does not disappoint. It makes a wonderful background or focal point and can be surprisingly versatile when it comes to colour. Snowflakes can be many colours and in this card I used the Rock n' Roll Technique with Crumb Cake and Soft Suede. Of course the Champagne Glimmer Paper fits right in with the colour scheme adding lots of impact with little effort.

I have to say I love the font on the sentiments that come with this set too. It is so Pretty.
I wanted to add a ribbon or embellishment but I also wanted to incorporate the glimmer paper so I created a little decoration that looks like Christmas balls.   It would be so easy to add sparkle to the snowflakes themselves but I was going for simple so I kept the sparkle to a minimum.  Hope you like it and I hope you have liked the Sneak Peek.  Remember if you would like a copy of the new Mini mailed to you or you would like to place an order please email me.

Sneak Peek Part 4 -- Joy

Almost done with my week of Sneak Peeks and I hope you are enjoying the preview!  Today's card had got lots of easy texture and sparkle.  From the Embossing folder to the DSP and Stamp Set this card is full of new products.

Bashful Blue and Island Indigo Card Stock with one of the many wonderful patterns from the Festival of Prints DSP pack make the base for this card.  I Embossed the DSP with the new Holiday Frame Textured Embossing Folder and then added the Oval Designer Frame Embossing Folder in Island Indigo along with some stamped images from the Joyous Celebrations Stamp Set in Island Indigo and Raspberry Ripple.
I sanded down the Embossed area on the DSP and added some glitter with the Dazzling Details and added Dazzling Diamonds to the Joy stamp from the Joyous Celebrations Stamp set.

Sneak Peek Part 3 -- Gift Box and Tutorial

I don't do tutorials very often but this box was super easy and can be made small or large. I am sure there is another tutorial some where with a box that is similar (or exactly the same) but this is my take on it.
As you can see there is some rather lovely glitter paper on this project and I already have more on my wish list. The ornaments on the top are from the new Stamp Set Ornament Keepsakes and of course what's a wonderful new set without some great Framelits Dies to go with it.

The box is a 3x3 gift box with dividers inside so you can give candies or hand sanitizers or what ever you can think up! It is super simple to make and takes on piece of 12x12 and one piece of          5 1/8 x 5 1/8.

I apologize for the picture quality; I was having some camera issues today!

Start with a 9x9 sheet of paper and score at 3" and 6" on both sides. (keep the extra paper from your original 12x12 sheet, you will need it)

Once you have scored the horizontal/vertical lines it is time to score the four corners with the diagonal plate.

If you are going to stamp the outside of the box now is the time!
For the lid you will need a 5 1/8" x 5 1/8" square piece,  score all sides at 1" and cut tabs in  corners as shown.

If you are going to stamp the lid, now is the time.
with the left over pieces from the 12x12 sheet cut two pieces 9"x 3" and score both at 1 1/2",    4 1/2",  and 7 1/2".

you will have to fold at the 4 1/2" mark for the next cut.
While folded cut the first piece from the top down to 2" and the second piece from the bottom up 2 1/2".  I used my snips to make the cuts a tiny bit wider.

Once those cuts are made fold the pieces along the other scored marks.

Slide the pieces together as shown and you now have an insert for the box.  This will add stability to the box and give you some cute little compartments in the box.

Now you will need to use some strong adhesive to adhere the box together.  Fold along all of the score lines including the diagonal lines as shown.

Add adhesive to the tabs on the lid and fold along the score lines.  I cute the tabs at a small diagonal so none of them show.
All the pieces are assembled, now put the dividers inside the box and the lid on top

Decorate as you see fit.

Sneak Peek Part 2 -- Gingerbread Love

I am totally in love with this next card.  The stamp set is one of my new favourites, Scentsational Season!  Not only is the stamp set super cute but there are a couple of really wonderful embossing powders to go with it.  They are SCENTsational!!  The card below smells as good as it looks!!

I really have always liked the simple Christmas cards the best.  This one was super easy (especially with the really wonderful Framelits dies that go with this stamp set!!).

Every stamp has a corresponding Framelit die that allows you to easily cut out the images!

For this card I used Soft Suede, Cherry Cobbler and Very Vanilla.  The ribbon is Seam Binding Ribbon and the heart is covered in crystal effects.

Baby on the Way ... Congrats

Ok this seems to be the summer of babies.  I have 4 friends who have had or will be having babies.  One of these friends happens to be my Upline Amber!  I am so excited for her.  This her third baby and her second boy!   I have seen a few of these baby bump cards and always wanted to try one (story of my life LOL).   I hand-drew a template on scrap paper and then traced it onto the new Midnight Muse .. I love that colour!

I ran the Midnight Muse through the Big Shot using the Argyle Embossing Folder.  The baby heart is covered in crystal effects and the Marina Mist layer is spritzed using the Colour Spritzing tool and the Midnight Muse Marker.  A little Marina Mist ribbon finishes off the look!

Some of the products used are listed below....

Christmas In July

I have been thinking about the cards I want to make for Christmas and SU has this great stamp set called "Stylin Snowfolk" that I thought would be perfect for my daughter and I to play with together!  So these are the cards we made the day it arrived!  It is so totally cute and fun!

Above is the card I made trying to take advantage of as many of the cute pieces as possible.  I very faintly sponged some snowhills on the card too.

To the Right is my daughter Jillian's Card.  She is 7 years old.  She created an entire back story for her card and included a dog for the Snowgirl to hold.  The Snowboy sees the Snowgirl and loves her so much his hat falls off! LOL.

Up, Up and Away

I have been eyeing the Up, Up and Away stamp set for awhile and when Michelle Zindorf made a card with the set that I fell in love with I had to buy it.  Now I have not been brave enough to try to recreate her card as I am not great at brayering but I did use her ideas and took them in my own direction.   Check out Michelle's Up, Up, and Away card Here.

I used Summer Smooches DSP as my Colour guide and stamped the Balloons in coordinating colours on scrap white.  Using my Whisper White Ink and Bashful Blue Card Stock I created a sky by sponging some white onto the blue paper.  I added a very faint "Make a Wish" sentiment in the sky using White and Bashful Blue Inks.  I then cut out the balloons and using my Stamp-a-ma jig I stamped the buckets on the CS and popped the balloons.  I stamped some birds and then set out to cut flags using the Summer Smooches DSP.  A little Daffodil Delight paper and an Indigo Ink base and the card was done, almost.

I then added a layer of Whisper White Card Stock to the inside of the card and decorated it.

I am loving this stamp set!  Below are just some of the items used while making this card.  To place an order just check out my Stampin Up website!
