Back to School Surprise

I bought some of those little hand sanitizers for my daughter to take in her backpack so when I was thinking about a special treat for her on her first day I thought I would create a little 3x3 card and box for the hand sanitizer.   This is what I came up with ...

The dimensions for the little box are as follows ...

Card Stock 4 3/4 x 7 5/8

On long side score at 3 1/4 and 4 3/8 (sorry there is a pencil mark in the diagram below that has no meaning so please ignore it!)

On the short side score at  1/2, 1 5/8,  3/18,  and 4 1/4.

Cut out the excess flaps and pieces as shown below (top side is cut out already and the bottom side is shaded.)

You can put a window in using framelits (unfortunately I do not have many of the SU framelits yet so I used a Non SU one).  I think the Apothecary Accents Framelits have one or two that would work or the bitty banners, as well as the Lots of Tags Sizzlits.  I added a window sheet on the inside too.

The lid is 2 x 1 5/8 scored on all sides at 1/4.  I cut two tabs to glue to the flaps to make the front and cut off the other two tabs and glued the back piece into the original box.

I hope that is clear! Please email me if you have any questions.

This card is a 3x3 and I used the wonderful Perfectly Preserved Stamp Set and the Cannery Set Framelits!  So much easier than cutting!!

The colours used are Gumball Green, Real Red, Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black and Whisper White
Inside the card I used the Family Reunion Stamp Set.

So here in Calgary Back to School is Tuesday morning and I have to say part of me is excited about getting the kids back to school but I am not looking forward to all of the running around this year!!  Hope you are enjoying the Back to School Season!

Back to School with some Blast from the Past

Well I have been busy getting ready to  back to school and thinking about my Christmas Card class so I have not made any back to school items but here are a couple of things from previous years to get you in the "Back to School" mood.

This great little School Bus is cased from Heather Summers!  I gave it to Jillian's First School bus driver a couple of years ago.

This is a post it note holder easel card.  I cannot take credit for the idea but I cannot remember where I saw it.  I am sure it was on Splitcoast Stampers. I love the punch art in both of these cards.  Once Jillian gets her teacher assignment I may have to make another for her new teacher!

Well I have a couple of ideas for the first day of school and will post those soon (if I can get them done LOL).   Hope you are enjoying these last days of summer.  Take Care.

Challenge -- Freshly Made Sketches #49

I have been playing with some 3-D flowers that I saw on Stampin' Pretty's Facebook Page and when I saw the sketch for this week on FMS I thought I would incorporate them.  This is what I came up with...

I used Crumb Cake, Raspberry Ripple and Early Espresso Card Stock and Ink for this card.
I used the  new 1 1/4" Scallop Circle Punch to create the 3D flowers and the Fancy Fan Embossing Folder.  I did Shimmer the entire card and add Sparkle to the flowers with Dazzling Details.

Spidey Sense

There is a little boy I know who just turned 7 and I wanted to make a card for him that he would love!  He just saw the new Spiderman movie so I thought I would try a card I had seen on a video from Pinterest (I will put the video on the bottom of this post).  I did not have the Stampin Up Spider web Embossing Folder unfortunately so that made it more difficult but I made due with the old one I had.

As you can see using the Embossing Folder to create the spider web and covering the raised sections in black ink.  The video below gives you a how to on the cutting of the eyes (I am not as accomplished as she is but I think they look ok.)

The SU Embossing Folder has the web centered and makes for a better card but I think I did ok with what I have.
I used Real Red, Pacific Point, Basic Black and White.

Moving is an Adventure

A friend of mine just moved to her new home and I wanted to make a fun and different kind of card to celebrate!  I thought about moving as an adventure and came up with this fun card.

If you have seen UP! from Pixar then you will know "Adventure is Out There" is a line from that movie. I printed it on my computer on to Vanilla card stock.  I punched it out and layered it.  The balloons were punched with a non-Stampin' Up punch (I was in a rush) and I shimmered them,  and the house was made using the square punch. I stamped the clouds with the top of a cupcake from the "Create a Cupcake" Set in Bashful Blue.  Pool Party Bakers Twine for the Balloons and some birds from the Up, Up and Away set to finish off the look.

Have a wonderful day.

3x3 Cards and Gift Box -- Mixed Medley

I have a fun little project for today.  3x3 cards are such a quick and easy way to make gift sets and I love making gift sets!  For this one I designed a little box to hold them (I am sure someone else has one similar to it somewhere but I like the challenge of trying to create it from scratch).  Let me know what you think.

I gave myself a little challenge to create cards using the Mixed Medley Hostess Set from the new Holiday Mini, using the same layout for each card but different colours for each.   So here they are.  Each card is spritzed on the Whisper White Base, and then I added two strips of paper in the colours that were chosen for each card.  Using the Mixed Medley Set and the New 1 1/4" Scallop Circle Punch I created the main embellishment.
I used Rose Red and Perfect Plum, Soft Suede and Raspberry Ripple, Island Indigo and Calypso Coral, Basic Black and Tangerine Tango, and finally Primrose Petals and Baja Breeze.

Below is a "How To" for the card holder.  It will hold up to 6 3x3 cards with envelopes.

So to put it simply ...

Cut paper to 10 x 7 1/4

Score Long side at |
3 1/4,  4 3/4,   8  and 9 1/2

Score Short side at
1 1/4,  4 3/4,  and 6 1/4

Cut out pieces as seen in photo above and snip down scoring lines where shown (I hope you can see those!).  Fold and adhere.
When I have it put together I then cut the sides of the top flap into a diagonal as seen on the lid of the brown box.  Decorate and give away!

Now for a fun little quiz ... What retired colour is seen in the How To Photo above??

Double Challenge

So today I felt like hitting the Challenge Circuit and I ended up entering 2 challenges with one card.  Paper Players is having a Colour Challenge (Not Quite Navy, Cherry Cobbler and Crumb Cake) and Freshly Made Sketches is having a Sketch Challenge.  I combined the two and came up with a cute Up, Up and Away Card (I am so glad I finally bought that set!!).

The sketch challenge can be seen below along with a link to each of the challenges so you can browse all of the wonderful entries.

I used Crumb Cake as my base and my layer with a layer of Cherry Cobbler behind it.  The Vanilla/Image piece is layered with Not Quite Navy and I used Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding Ribbon to add in the required element from the sketch.  The sky's the limit sentiment is punched on the new 1 1/4" Scallop Circle Punch!

Back home to a bit of a Surprise!!

Well returned home today from our wonderful holiday in BC only to assess the damage from the wonderful Hail Storm that hit Calgary last night!  Luckily our house did not suffer more than a little siding damage and the odd yard knicknack broken.   My neighbours had broken windows and damaged vehicles.   Below is a photos from my Upline Amber ....

When we got home this afternoon there was still ice in the yard despite the 25 degree Celsius weather!

Anyway I will be back in my craft room this week and I think some Halloween fun is in order. My oldest daughter was born on Halloween so below are a couple of the Items from back when she was too little to tell me what theme she wanted!

The top is a little bag with a flap and inside I put a little candy and the invite.  The bottom is a picture of the Thank you cards for everyone who came.   Needless to say we love halloween in this house!

Enjoy your week!

Hello From B.C.

Well I have no new Paper Crafts for today but maybe a Flashback .. But first I will show you what we have been up to the last couple of days!  We are on vacation in Invermere BC and it is beautiful here!!!   The Columbia Valley is amazing and there are great Hot Springs, Hiking Trails and Lakes.

I love the middle picture.  This was just the second day and so far we have hit the lake twice and the Hot Springs (I did not bring my camera),  the downtown shops and the pool at the condo.  We are washing all of our towels already!!

Here are a couple of older cards but they remind me of summer and I love all of the wonderful colour in these.  The butterfly card was done with a swirly embossing folder and loads of colourful butterflies.  They are very simple and totally fun.
This card was from the old retired Island Oasis DSP and Cheers to You Stamp set.  I miss them both and they were very fun!

Hope you are enjoying your summer and I will try to put another post later this week with some more photos of BC and maybe another card or two!

Holiday Monday - Baby Post

Just over 5 weeks ago a friend of ours had a little baby boy.   I love making baby cards because I do not get the opportunity very often any more and because it is always a challenge to make a super cute and special card!   With this card I combined a couple card types I had been wanting to try. I used ideas from a number of cards I have seen on Splitcoast Stampers web gallery.  This is  a dresser/step card.  I have seen a few of these around and thought this was the perfect time to try it out.  Let me know what you think!

I used Chocolate Chip Card Stock and added touches in Baja Breeze and Whisper White.  The monkey is Soft Suede and the Giraffe is More Mustard. I made the card using the Splitcoast Stampers Tutorial.  The bib, baby blanket and lamp are all embossed using the square lattice embossing folder.  I punched out the base of the dresser with the Decorative Label  Punch.
I used the computer to print out the photo and the birth information then punched them out for the embellishments.  The lamp base is from a retired tab punch (I used the edges to create the curved shape).  The baby bottle is the jewellery tag punch.

Overall I was really pleased with the card and the new parents loved it too and that is what really counts.

I am off to the mountains for a week and if I get some time I will post some pictures of our adventures in the Rockies.  Have a great Holiday Monday everyone.

Thank You and Enjoy Today

Yesterday I was honoured by Kelly at "Blog Finds of the Day" and Stampin' Nerd was chosen as one of the featured Blogs for Aug 1.  The project that was selected was my Gift Set Tutorial!  I really enjoy creating and crafting but the fact that so many people love the same hobby and love to share their creations is one of the best reasons to get online!

Thank you to all my followers and everyone who has commented on my website. It means the world to me.

For today I created a card using the baby wipes technique. I added Pumpkin Pie, So Saffron, Wild Wasabi and Riding Hood Red re-inker to a moist baby wipe and stamped the leaves in it from the Gently Falling stamp set. I used Espresso Ink for the outline of the leaves and then the Espresso Marker and Spritzing tool to add some texture. I sponged the edges with Soft Suede and added the ribbon, Linen Thread and Naturals Button! It literally took less thank 10 minutes.
